Your Personal Retirement Bond: what your old pension could become.

A Personal Retirement Bond (PRB) takes the pension you built with a former employer and keeps it invested in your own name. Enter the transfer value and your plans to see an illustration of the fund, the lump sum, and the income it could provide.

What is a Personal Retirement Bond?

When you leave an employer, you may be able to move the value of your pension from that employer's scheme into a Personal Retirement Bond: a pension in your own name, invested separately from any scheme you are in now.

In your name

The bond is yours, whoever you work for next.

Not new contributions

A PRB is for transferring an existing pension. Ongoing contributions go into a different pension, such as a PRSA or your new employer's scheme.

Your options at retirement

You can usually take a tax-free lump sum and then an ARF or an annuity, depending on the contract.

Before you transfer

  • Some schemes have benefits or guarantees that are lost on transfer.
  • Charges and investment choices differ between providers.
  • Whether you can transfer, and what you would receive, depends on your former scheme's rules.
  • We will talk through these with you on the callback — nothing here is a recommendation to transfer.
Can I add to a PRB?

Generally no — a PRB holds a transferred pension. Further saving usually goes into another pension.

Is a PRB the same as a PRSA?

No. A PRB holds benefits transferred from an employer scheme; a PRSA is a separate personal account you can contribute to.
